"Allah would not place a burden on you, but He would purify you and would perfect His grace upon you, that ye may give thanks." — Holy Qur'an 5:6
Holy Quran Verses from Pickthall and Yusufali's Translations
In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
| 037.001 | |
| Yusufali: | By those who range themselves in ranks, |
| Pickthall: | By those who set the ranks in battle order |
| 037.002 | |
| Yusufali: | And so are strong in repelling (evil), |
| Pickthall: | And those who drive away (the wicked) with reproof |
| 037.003 | |
| Yusufali: | And thus proclaim the Message (of God)! |
| Pickthall: | And those who read (the Word) for a reminder, |
| 037.004 | |
| Yusufali: | Verily, verily, your God is one!- |
| Pickthall: | Lo! thy Lord is surely One; |
| 037.005 | |
| Yusufali: | Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all between them, and Lord of every point at the rising of the sun! |
| Pickthall: | Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all that is between them, and Lord of the sun's risings. |
| 037.006 | |
| Yusufali: | We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars,- |
| Pickthall: | Lo! We have adorned the lowest heaven with an ornament, the planets; |
| 037.007 | |
| Yusufali: | (For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits, |
| Pickthall: | With security from every froward devil. |
| 037.008 | |
| Yusufali: | (So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly but be cast away from every side, |
| Pickthall: | They cannot listen to the Highest Chiefs for they are pelted from every side, |
| 037.009 | |
| Yusufali: | Repulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty, |
| Pickthall: | Outcast, and theirs is a perpetual torment; |
| 037.010 | |
| Yusufali: | Except such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire, of piercing brightness. |
| Pickthall: | Save him who snatcheth a fragment, and there pursueth him a piercing flame. |
| 037.011 | |
| Yusufali: | Just ask their opinion: are they the more difficult to create, or the (other) beings We have created? Them have We created out of a sticky clay! |
| Pickthall: | Then ask them (O Muhammad): Are they stronger as a creation, or those (others) whom we have created? Lo! We created them of plastic clay. |
| 037.012 | |
| Yusufali: | Truly dost thou marvel, while they ridicule, |
| Pickthall: | Nay, but thou dost marvel when they mock |
| 037.013 | |
| Yusufali: | And, when they are admonished, pay no heed,- |
| Pickthall: | And heed not when they are reminded, |
| 037.014 | |
| Yusufali: | And, when they see a Sign, turn it to mockery, |
| Pickthall: | And seek to scoff when they behold a portent. |
| 037.015 | |
| Yusufali: | And say, "This is nothing but evident sorcery! |
| Pickthall: | And they say: Lo! this is mere magic; |
| 037.016 | |
| Yusufali: | "What! when we die, and become dust and bones, shall we (then) be raised up (again) |
| Pickthall: | When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised (again)? |
| 037.017 | |
| Yusufali: | "And also our fathers of old?" |
| Pickthall: | And our forefathers? |
| 037.018 | |
| Yusufali: | Say thou: "Yea, and ye shall then be humiliated (on account of your evil)." |
| Pickthall: | Say (O Muhammad): Ye, in truth; and ye will be brought low. |
| 037.019 | |
| Yusufali: | Then it will be a single (compelling) cry; and behold, they will begin to see! |
| Pickthall: | There is but one Shout, and lo! they behold, |
| 037.020 | |
| Yusufali: | They will say, "Ah! Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!" |
| Pickthall: | And say: Ah, woe for us! This is the Day of Judgment. |
| 037.021 | |
| Yusufali: | (A voice will say,) "This is the Day of Sorting Out, whose truth ye (once) denied!" |
| Pickthall: | This is the Day of Separation, which ye used to deny. |
| 037.022 | |
| Yusufali: | "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- |
| Pickthall: | (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship |
| 037.023 | |
| Yusufali: | "Besides God, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! |
| Pickthall: | Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; |
| 037.024 | |
| Yusufali: | "But stop them, for they must be asked: |
| Pickthall: | And stop them, for they must be questioned. |
| 037.025 | |
| Yusufali: | "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" |
| Pickthall: | What aileth you that ye help not one another? |
| 037.026 | |
| Yusufali: | Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); |
| Pickthall: | Nay, but this day they make full submission. |
| 037.027 | |
| Yusufali: | And they will turn to one another, and question one another. |
| Pickthall: | And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. |
| 037.028 | |
| Yusufali: | They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" |
| Pickthall: | They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). |
| 037.029 | |
| Yusufali: | They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! |
| Pickthall: | They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. |
| 037.030 | |
| Yusufali: | "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! |
| Pickthall: | We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. |
| 037.031 | |
| Yusufali: | "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). |
| Pickthall: | Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). |
| 037.032 | |
| Yusufali: | "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." |
| Pickthall: | Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. |
| 037.033 | |
| Yusufali: | Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. |
| Pickthall: | Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. |
| 037.034 | |
| Yusufali: | Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. |
| Pickthall: | Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. |
| 037.035 | |
| Yusufali: | For they, when they were told that there is no god except God, would puff themselves up with Pride, |
| Pickthall: | For when it was said unto them, There is no God save Allah, they were scornful |
| 037.036 | |
| Yusufali: | And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" |
| Pickthall: | And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? |
| 037.037 | |
| Yusufali: | Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the apostles (before him). |
| Pickthall: | Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him). |
| 037.038 | |
| Yusufali: | Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- |
| Pickthall: | Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - |
| 037.039 | |
| Yusufali: | But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- |
| Pickthall: | Ye are requited naught save what ye did - |
| 037.040 | |
| Yusufali: | But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of God,- |
| Pickthall: | Save single-minded slaves of Allah; |
| 037.041 | |
| Yusufali: | For them is a Sustenance determined, |
| Pickthall: | For them there is a known provision, |
| 037.042 | |
| Yusufali: | Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, |
| Pickthall: | Fruits. And they will be honoured |
| 037.043 | |
| Yusufali: | In Gardens of Felicity, |
| Pickthall: | In the Gardens of delight, |
| 037.044 | |
| Yusufali: | Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): |
| Pickthall: | On couches facing one another; |
| 037.045 | |
| Yusufali: | Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, |
| Pickthall: | A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, |
| 037.046 | |
| Yusufali: | Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), |
| Pickthall: | White, delicious to the drinkers, |
| 037.047 | |
| Yusufali: | Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. |
| Pickthall: | Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. |
| 037.048 | |
| Yusufali: | And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). |
| Pickthall: | And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, |
| 037.049 | |
| Yusufali: | As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. |
| Pickthall: | (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). |
| 037.050 | |
| Yusufali: | Then they will turn to one another and question one another. |
| Pickthall: | And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. |
| 037.051 | |
| Yusufali: | One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), |
| Pickthall: | A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade |
| 037.052 | |
| Yusufali: | "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? |
| Pickthall: | Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? |
| 037.053 | |
| Yusufali: | "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" |
| Pickthall: | Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? |
| 037.054 | |
| Yusufali: | (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" |
| Pickthall: | He saith: Will ye look? |
| 037.055 | |
| Yusufali: | He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. |
| Pickthall: | Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. |
| 037.056 | |
| Yusufali: | He said: "By God! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! |
| Pickthall: | He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, |
| 037.057 | |
| Yusufali: | "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! |
| Pickthall: | And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). |
| 037.058 | |
| Yusufali: | "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, |
| Pickthall: | Are we then not to die |
| 037.059 | |
| Yusufali: | "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" |
| Pickthall: | Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? |
| 037.060 | |
| Yusufali: | Verily this is the supreme achievement! |
| Pickthall: | Lo! this is the supreme triumph. |
| 037.061 | |
| Yusufali: | For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. |
| Pickthall: | For the like of this, then, let the workers work. |
| 037.062 | |
| Yusufali: | Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? |
| Pickthall: | Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? |
| 037.063 | |
| Yusufali: | For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. |
| Pickthall: | Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. |
| 037.064 | |
| Yusufali: | For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: |
| Pickthall: | Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. |
| 037.065 | |
| Yusufali: | The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: |
| Pickthall: | Its crop is as it were the heads of devils |
| 037.066 | |
| Yusufali: | Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. |
| Pickthall: | And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. |
| 037.067 | |
| Yusufali: | Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. |
| Pickthall: | And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water |
| 037.068 | |
| Yusufali: | Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. |
| Pickthall: | And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. |
| 037.069 | |
| Yusufali: | Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; |
| Pickthall: | They indeed found their fathers astray, |
| 037.070 | |
| Yusufali: | So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps! |
| Pickthall: | But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. |
| 037.071 | |
| Yusufali: | And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- |
| Pickthall: | And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, |
| 037.072 | |
| Yusufali: | But We sent aforetime, among them, (apostles) to admonish them;- |
| Pickthall: | And verily We sent among them warners. |
| 037.073 | |
| Yusufali: | Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- |
| Pickthall: | Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, |
| 037.074 | |
| Yusufali: | Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of God. |
| Pickthall: | Save single-minded slaves of Allah. |
| 037.075 | |
| Yusufali: | (In the days of old), Noah cried to Us, and We are the best to hear prayer. |
| Pickthall: | And Noah verily prayed unto Us, and gracious was the Hearer of his prayer |
| 037.076 | |
| Yusufali: | And We delivered him and his people from the Great Calamity, |
| Pickthall: | And We saved him and his household from the great distress, |
| 037.077 | |
| Yusufali: | And made his progeny to endure (on this earth); |
| Pickthall: | And made his seed the survivors, |
| 037.078 | |
| Yusufali: | And We left (this blessing) for him among generations to come in later times: |
| Pickthall: | And left for him among the later folk (the salutation): |
| 037.079 | |
| Yusufali: | "Peace and salutation to Noah among the nations!" |
| Pickthall: | Peace be unto Noah among the peoples! |
| 037.080 | |
| Yusufali: | Thus indeed do we reward those who do right. |
| Pickthall: | Lo! thus do We reward the good. |
| 037.081 | |
| Yusufali: | For he was one of our believing Servants. |
| Pickthall: | Lo! he is one of Our believing slaves. |
| 037.082 | |
| Yusufali: | Then the rest we overwhelmed in the Flood. |
| Pickthall: | Then We did drown the others. |
| 037.083 | |
| Yusufali: | Verily among those who followed his Way was Abraham. |
| Pickthall: | And lo! of his persuasion verily was Abraham |
| 037.084 | |
| Yusufali: | Behold! he approached his Lord with a sound heart. |
| Pickthall: | When he came unto his Lord with a whole heart; |
| 037.085 | |
| Yusufali: | Behold! he said to his father and to his people, "What is that which ye worship? |
| Pickthall: | When he said unto his father and his folk: What is it that ye worship? |
| 037.086 | |
| Yusufali: | "Is it a falsehood- gods other than God- that ye desire? |
| Pickthall: | Is it a falsehood - gods beside Allah - that ye desire? |
| 037.087 | |
| Yusufali: | "Then what is your idea about the Lord of the worlds?" |
| Pickthall: | What then is your opinion of the Lord of the Worlds? |
| 037.088 | |
| Yusufali: | Then did he cast a glance at the Stars. |
| Pickthall: | And he glanced a glance at the stars |
| 037.089 | |
| Yusufali: | And he said, "I am indeed sick (at heart)!" |
| Pickthall: | Then said: Lo! I feel sick! |
| 037.090 | |
| Yusufali: | So they turned away from him, and departed. |
| Pickthall: | And they turned their backs and went away from him. |
| 037.091 | |
| Yusufali: | Then did he turn to their gods and said, "will ye not eat (of the offerings before you)?... |
| Pickthall: | Then turned he to their gods and said: Will ye not eat? |
| 037.092 | |
| Yusufali: | "What is the matter with you that ye speak not (intelligently)?" |
| Pickthall: | What aileth you that ye speak not? |
| 037.093 | |
| Yusufali: | Then did he turn upon them, striking (them) with the right hand. |
| Pickthall: | Then he attacked them, striking with his right hand. |
| 037.094 | |
| Yusufali: | Then came (the worshippers) with hurried steps, and faced (him). |
| Pickthall: | And (his people) came toward him, hastening. |
| 037.095 | |
| Yusufali: | He said: "Worship ye that which ye have (yourselves) carved? |
| Pickthall: | He said: Worship ye that which ye yourselves do carve |
| 037.096 | |
| Yusufali: | "But God has created you and your handwork!" |
| Pickthall: | When Allah hath created you and what ye make? |
| 037.097 | |
| Yusufali: | They said, "Build him a furnace, and throw him into the blazing fire!" |
| Pickthall: | They said: Build for him a building and fling him in the red-hotfire. |
| 037.098 | |
| Yusufali: | (This failing), they then sought a stratagem against him, but We made them the ones most humiliated! |
| Pickthall: | And they designed a snare for him, but We made them the undermost. |
| 037.099 | |
| Yusufali: | He said: "I will go to my Lord! He will surely guide me! |
| Pickthall: | And he said: Lo! I am going unto my Lord Who will guide me. |
| 037.100 | |
| Yusufali: | "O my Lord! Grant me a righteous (son)!" |
| Pickthall: | My Lord! Vouchsafe me of the righteous. |
| 037.101 | |
| Yusufali: | So We gave him the good news of a boy ready to suffer and forbear. |
| Pickthall: | So We gave him tidings of a gentle son. |
| 037.102 | |
| Yusufali: | Then, when (the son) reached (the age of) (serious) work with him, he said: "O my son! I see in vision that I offer thee in sacrifice: Now see what is thy view!" (The son) said: "O my father! Do as thou art commanded: thou will find me, if God so wills one practising Patience and Constancy!" |
| Pickthall: | And when (his son) was old enough to walk with him, (Abraham) said: O my dear son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice thee. So look, what thinkest thou? He said: O my father! Do that which thou art commanded. Allah willing, thou shalt find me of the steadfast. |
| 037.103 | |
| Yusufali: | So when they had both submitted their wills (to God), and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (for sacrifice), |
| Pickthall: | Then, when they had both surrendered (to Allah), and he had flung him down upon his face, |
| 037.104 | |
| Yusufali: | We called out to him "O Abraham! |
| Pickthall: | We called unto him: O Abraham! |
| 037.105 | |
| Yusufali: | "Thou hast already fulfilled the vision!" - thus indeed do We reward those who do right. |
| Pickthall: | Thou hast already fulfilled the vision. Lo! thus do We reward the good. |
| 037.106 | |
| Yusufali: | For this was obviously a trial- |
| Pickthall: | Lo! that verily was a clear test. |
| 037.107 | |
| Yusufali: | And We ransomed him with a momentous sacrifice: |
| Pickthall: | Then We ransomed him with a tremendous victim. |
| 037.108 | |
| Yusufali: | And We left (this blessing) for him among generations (to come) in later times: |
| Pickthall: | And We left for him among the later folk (the salutation): |
| 037.109 | |
| Yusufali: | "Peace and salutation to Abraham!" |
| Pickthall: | Peace be unto Abraham! |
| 037.110 | |
| Yusufali: | Thus indeed do We reward those who do right. |
| Pickthall: | Thus do We reward the good. |
| 037.111 | |
| Yusufali: | For he was one of our believing Servants. |
| Pickthall: | Lo! he is one of Our believing slaves. |
| 037.112 | |
| Yusufali: | And We gave him the good news of Isaac - a prophet,- one of the Righteous. |
| Pickthall: | And we gave him tidings of the birth of Isaac, a prophet of the righteous. |
| 037.113 | |
| Yusufali: | We blessed him and Isaac: but of their progeny are (some) that do right, and (some) that obviously do wrong, to their own souls. |
| Pickthall: | And We blessed him and Isaac. And of their seed are some who do good, and some who plainly wrong themselves. |
| 037.114 | |
| Yusufali: | Again (of old) We bestowed Our favour on Moses and Aaron, |
| Pickthall: | And We verily gave grace unto Moses and Aaron, |
| 037.115 | |
| Yusufali: | And We delivered them and their people from (their) Great Calamity; |
| Pickthall: | And saved them and their people from the great distress, |
| 037.116 | |
| Yusufali: | And We helped them, so they overcame (their troubles); |
| Pickthall: | And helped them so that they became the victors. |
| 037.117 | |
| Yusufali: | And We gave them the Book which helps to make things clear; |
| Pickthall: | And We gave them the clear Scripture |
| 037.118 | |
| Yusufali: | And We guided them to the Straight Way. |
| Pickthall: | And showed them the right path. |
| 037.119 | |
| Yusufali: | And We left (this blessing) for them among generations (to come) in later times: |
| Pickthall: | And We left for them among the later folk (the salutation): |
| 037.120 | |
| Yusufali: | "Peace and salutation to Moses and Aaron!" |
| Pickthall: | Peace be unto Moses and Aaron! |
| 037.121 | |
| Yusufali: | Thus indeed do We reward those who do right. |
| Pickthall: | Lo! thus do We reward the good. |
| 037.122 | |
| Yusufali: | For they were two of our believing Servants. |
| Pickthall: | Lo! they are two of Our believing slaves. |
| 037.123 | |
| Yusufali: | So also was Elias among those sent (by Us). |
| Pickthall: | And lo! Elias was of those sent (to warn), |
| 037.124 | |
| Yusufali: | Behold, he said to his people, "Will ye not fear (God)? |
| Pickthall: | When he said unto his folk: Will ye not ward off (evil)? |
| 037.125 | |
| Yusufali: | "Will ye call upon Baal and forsake the Best of Creators,- |
| Pickthall: | Will ye cry unto Baal and forsake the Best of creators, |
| 037.126 | |
| Yusufali: | "God, your Lord and Cherisher and the Lord and Cherisher of your fathers of old?" |
| Pickthall: | Allah, your Lord and Lord of your forefathers? |
| 037.127 | |
| Yusufali: | But they rejected him, and they will certainly be called up (for punishment),- |
| Pickthall: | But they denied him, so they surely will be haled forth (to the doom) |
| 037.128 | |
| Yusufali: | Except the sincere and devoted Servants of God (among them). |
| Pickthall: | Save single-minded slaves of Allah. |
| 037.129 | |
| Yusufali: | And We left (this blessing) for him among generations (to come) in later times: |
| Pickthall: | And we left for him among the later folk (the salutation): |
| 037.130 | |
| Yusufali: | "Peace and salutation to such as Elias!" |
| Pickthall: | Peace be unto Elias! |
| 037.131 | |
| Yusufali: | Thus indeed do We reward those who do right. |
| Pickthall: | Lo! thus do We reward the good. |
| 037.132 | |
| Yusufali: | For he was one of our believing Servants. |
| Pickthall: | Lo! he is one of our believing slaves. |
| 037.133 | |
| Yusufali: | So also was Lut among those sent (by Us). |
| Pickthall: | And lo! Lot verily was of those sent (to warn). |
| 037.134 | |
| Yusufali: | Behold, We delivered him and his adherents, all |
| Pickthall: | When We saved him and his household, every one, |
| 037.135 | |
| Yusufali: | Except an old woman who was among those who lagged behind: |
| Pickthall: | Save an old woman among those who stayed behind; |
| 037.136 | |
| Yusufali: | Then We destroyed the rest. |
| Pickthall: | Then We destroyed the others. |
| 037.137 | |
| Yusufali: | Verily, ye pass by their (sites), by day- |
| Pickthall: | And lo! ye verily pass by (the ruin of) them in the morning |
| 037.138 | |
| Yusufali: | And by night: will ye not understand? |
| Pickthall: | And at night-time; have ye then no sense? |
| 037.139 | |
| Yusufali: | So also was Jonah among those sent (by Us). |
| Pickthall: | And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) |

| Yusufali: | When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, |
| Pickthall: | When he fled unto the laden ship, |
| 037.141 | |
| Yusufali: | He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: |
| Pickthall: | And then drew lots and was of those rejected; |
| 037.142 | |
| Yusufali: | Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. |
| Pickthall: | And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy; |
| 037.143 | |
| Yusufali: | Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified God, |
| Pickthall: | And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah) |
| 037.144 | |
| Yusufali: | He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. |
| Pickthall: | He would have tarried in its belly till the day when they are raised; |
| 037.145 | |
| Yusufali: | But We cast him forth on the naked shore in a state of sickness, |
| Pickthall: | Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; |
| 037.146 | |
| Yusufali: | And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. |
| Pickthall: | And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; |
| 037.147 | |
| Yusufali: | And We sent him (on a mission) to a hundred thousand (men) or more. |
| Pickthall: | And We sent him to a hundred thousand (folk) or more |
| 037.148 | |
| Yusufali: | And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. |
| Pickthall: | And they believed, therefor We gave them comfort for a while. |
| 037.149 | |
| Yusufali: | Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- |
| Pickthall: | Now ask them (O Muhammad): Hath thy Lord daughters whereas they have sons? |
| 037.150 | |
| Yusufali: | Or that We created the angels female, and they are witnesses (thereto)? |
| Pickthall: | Or created We the angels females while they were present? |
| 037.151 | |
| Yusufali: | Is it not that they say, from their own invention, |
| Pickthall: | Lo! it is of their falsehood that they say: |
| 037.152 | |
| Yusufali: | "God has begotten children"? but they are liars! |
| Pickthall: | Allah hath begotten. Allah! verily they tell a lie. |
| 037.153 | |
| Yusufali: | Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? |
| Pickthall: | (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. |
| 037.154 | |
| Yusufali: | What is the matter with you? How judge ye? |
| Pickthall: | What aileth you? How judge ye? |
| 037.155 | |
| Yusufali: | Will ye not then receive admonition? |
| Pickthall: | Will ye not then reflect? |
| 037.156 | |
| Yusufali: | Or have ye an authority manifest? |
| Pickthall: | Or have ye a clear warrant? |
| 037.157 | |
| Yusufali: | Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! |
| Pickthall: | Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. |
| 037.158 | |
| Yusufali: | And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before his Judgment-Seat)! |
| Pickthall: | And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him). |
| 037.159 | |
| Yusufali: | Glory to God! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)! |
| Pickthall: | Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), |
| 037.160 | |
| Yusufali: | Not (so do) the Servants of God, sincere and devoted. |
| Pickthall: | Save single-minded slaves of Allah. |
| 037.161 | |
| Yusufali: | For, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship- |
| Pickthall: | Lo! verily, ye and that which ye worship, |
| 037.162 | |
| Yusufali: | Can lead (any) into temptation concerning God, |
| Pickthall: | Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. |
| 037.163 | |
| Yusufali: | Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! |
| Pickthall: | Save him who is to burn in hell. |
| 037.164 | |
| Yusufali: | (Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed; |
| Pickthall: | There is not one of us but hath his known position. |
| 037.165 | |
| Yusufali: | "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service); |
| Pickthall: | Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, |
| 037.166 | |
| Yusufali: | "And we are verily those who declare (God's) glory!" |
| Pickthall: | Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise |
| 037.167 | |
| Yusufali: | And there were those who said, |
| Pickthall: | And indeed they used to say: |
| 037.168 | |
| Yusufali: | "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old, |
| Pickthall: | If we had but a reminder from the men of old |
| 037.169 | |
| Yusufali: | "We should certainly have been Servants of God, sincere (and devoted)!" |
| Pickthall: | We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. |
| 037.170 | |
| Yusufali: | But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! |
| Pickthall: | Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know. |
| 037.171 | |
| Yusufali: | Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), |
| Pickthall: | And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) |
| 037.172 | |
| Yusufali: | That they would certainly be assisted, |
| Pickthall: | That they verily would be helped, |
| 037.173 | |
| Yusufali: | And that Our forces,- they surely must conquer. |
| Pickthall: | And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. |
| 037.174 | |
| Yusufali: | So turn thou away from them for a little while, |
| Pickthall: | So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile, |
| 037.175 | |
| Yusufali: | And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! |
| Pickthall: | And watch, for they will (soon) see. |
| 037.176 | |
| Yusufali: | Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? |
| Pickthall: | Would they hasten on Our doom? |
| 037.177 | |
| Yusufali: | But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! |
| Pickthall: | But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned. |
| 037.178 | |
| Yusufali: | So turn thou away from them for a little while, |
| Pickthall: | Withdraw from them awhile |
| 037.179 | |
| Yusufali: | And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! |
| Pickthall: | And watch, for they will (soon) see. |
| 037.180 | |
| Yusufali: | Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! |
| Pickthall: | Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they attribute (unto Him) |
| 037.181 | |
| Yusufali: | And Peace on the apostles! |
| Pickthall: | And peace be unto those sent (to warn). |
| 037.182 | |
| Yusufali: | And Praise to God, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. |
| Pickthall: | And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! |
