| Yusufali: | Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- |
| Pickthall: | Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, |
| 096.002 | |
| Yusufali: | Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: |
| Pickthall: | Createth man from a clot. |
| 096.003 | |
| Yusufali: | Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- |

| Yusufali: | He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- |
| Pickthall: | Who teacheth by the pen, |

| Yusufali: | Day, but man doth transgress all bounds, |

| Yusufali: | A votary when he (turns) to pray? |

| Yusufali: | Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- |
| Pickthall: | Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) |

| Yusufali: | Or enjoins Righteousness? |

| Yusufali: | Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? |
| Pickthall: | Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? |

| Yusufali: | Knoweth he not that God doth see? |
| Pickthall: | Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? |

| Yusufali: | Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- |
| Pickthall: | Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - |

| Yusufali: | A lying, sinful forelock! |
| Pickthall: | The lying, sinful forelock - |

| Yusufali: | Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): |
| Pickthall: | Then let him call upon his henchmen! |

| Yusufali: | We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! |
| Pickthall: | We will call the guards of hell. |
| 096.019 | |
| Yusufali: | Day, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to God)! |
| Pickthall: | Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). |
Let us pray (Sura 20, Ayat 114) 'Ya Rabbi Zidni Ilma!' ('O Lord! Increase me in knowledge.') and seek spiritual help (ta'yid) to understand our great faith.
