| Yusufali: | By (the Token of) Time (through the ages), |
| Pickthall: | By the declining day, |

| Yusufali: | Verily Man is in loss, |
| Pickthall: | Lo! man is a state of loss, |

| Yusufali: | Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy. |
| Pickthall: | Save those who believe and do good works, and exhort one another to truth and exhort one another to endurance. |
